A Nutella obsession.

Nutella

I won’t lie. I have an obsession with Nutella — and I’m okay with that. Eat it on cookies, on toast, on sandwiches, on fruit, out of the jar .. it’s pretty much one of the greatest substances ever. For some reason I’m craving it much more today than usual. Therefore, I figured it was best to share my hazelnut love and post a few delicious Nutella recipes. That’s right. You’ll be RUNNING to the kitchen after reading these.

Have a family movie night!

When was the last time you had a family movie night? “Movie nights” are one of the great pastimes that have slowly faded with the increasing popularity of video games, cable television, the Internet, etc. This goes right along with eating together as a family at the dinner table and family outings on the weekends. Kids are getting too busy — hanging with friends, going to the mall, going away for the weekend. But family movie nights are a great way to get the bunch of you together for one night of quality time. If that”s not enough, our lady Martha Stewart has some great treat ideas to entice  your family (click each picture to get the recipe):

Chewy Caramel Popcorn and Pretzel Bars

Mini Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches

Pomegranate Soda

Chocolate Cupcake Cones

Chocolate Macadamia Tartlets

Chocoholics unite! It's National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

If you”re a lover of chocolate and cake, then today is the day for you. On behalf of Social Grocery, I wish you a very Happy National Chocolate Cupcake Day (not to be confused with National Cupcake Day on December 15th)!

In celebration of this delicious day — and in addition to my love of obscure holidays — I have decided to share a few treats to help get your OM NOM NOM on. And no, they”re not your basic out-of-the-box chocolate cupcakes:

TRIPLE CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES

Triple Chocolate Cupcakes

This is what I would like to call a CHOCOLATE EXPLOSION. These devil”s food chocolate cupcakes from Annie”s Eats are filled with chocolate ganache, then topped with chocolate sour cream frosting and chocolate curls. Not only are these gorgeous, they”re bursting with chocolate-induced happiness. Please do yourself a favor and make them ASAP. Perfect for National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

CHOCOLATE CUPCAKE POPS

Chocolate Cupcake Pops

As a huge Bakerella fan, I obviously had to include her Chocolate Cupcake Pops in this post. Take a different spin on the traditional chocolate cupcake — shrink it, dip it, decorate it and put it on a stick instead. If you haven”t tried cupcake pops or cake pops yet, use National Chocolate Cupcake Day as an excuse to educate yourself. You won”t be disappointed!

CHOCOLATE ROSE TUTORIAL (CAKE/CUPCAKE TOPPER)

Chocolate Rose Cake/Cupcake Topper

Tell me you”ve never seen gourmet cupcakes with elaborate flower toppings and thought “hey, I want to learn how to do that!” Well, luckily for us, Cakebrain from Cake on The Brain blog has an excellent tutorial on how to create these chocolate roses, perfect to add a little touch of beauty to your National Chocolate Cupcake Day creations. And according to Cakebrain herself,  they”re easier to make than we think!

Old favorites are here to stay.

Have you ever stopped to think about how long some brands have been around? Think about it. Some brands have become such a staple in many of our lives that we refer to them constantly — like calling any brand of tissue paper “Kleenex” or generic cola “Coke.”

There are certainly some veterans when it comes to food products and brands. For a perfect example, take a walk down the cereal aisle next time you”re in the grocery store. How many of those brands do you remember eating as a child yourself? We”re betting more than a few!

Feeling inspired to take a stab into the history of the grocery world, we found a couple of old school commercials to entertain you. Did we mention that all of these items are still available in your local grocery store and also on SocialGrocery.com? Let”s revisit a few old time favorites!

** If the YouTube videos do not load the first time around, just refresh the page!

>> Rice Krispies
Come on, who doesn”t love a nice Snap! Crackle! Pop!

>> Tootsie Pops
Did they ever figure out how many licks it takes?

>> Maypo
All he wants is his Maypo! Doesn”t everyone?

>> Bosco
No one does chocolately magic better than Bosco.

>> Pabst Blue Ribbon
Funny to see how PBR started as a classy bar beverage and evolved into the staple of college students everywhere, isn”t it?

It”s amazing to see how far some brands have come. What other favorite product veterans are still kickin”?
Bit-O-Honey? SPAM? Necco Wafers, anyone?
