When Storms Rain Down, Shoppers Stock Up [INFOGRAPHIC]

A little over a month ago, Hurricane Irene made landfall along the Eastern Coastline, causing over $10.5 billion dollars in damage. Here in Vermont, the home state of Social Grocery, many towns, businesses, and people are still cleaning up the mess it left behind. Our parent company, MyWebGrocer, took a look at its online sales data and found that many consumers were stocking up prior to Hurricane Irene”s landfall. So, we give you our “Preparing for Hurricane Irene” infographic.

Edit your SoGro profile, say what?!

You heard it here firstwe have some new features lingering around on Social Grocery!

First on the list is profiles. You now have the ability to edit your profile information. Awesome, right? We think so. To do so, while on your profile page, you will find a handy “Edit Profile” button underneath your picture:

By clicking that, it will lead you to your edit page. Now you can edit your profile name, add the URL to your personal website, blog, Twitter account or Facebook page, enter in a short bio about yourself (get creative!) and share with us your favorite store — there will be a pre-selected list provided according to your zip code.

After perfecting your information, click save. The bio spot on your profile will now look something like this:

As we like to say here at Social Grocery, “AMAZABALLS!

Next up is brand pages. You are now able to search by brand names, accessible by the footer, browse menu, and each product page (brand name hyperlink next to the product image). Here”s an example of what the brand page search index looks like:

From there, you can click on a brand and be directed to their own page. These pages include websites, Facebook and Twitter links, a contact number, a top ranked product, as well as a listing of all products available on Social Grocery for that specific brand.

Look at that! Now you can easily access your favorite brand”s products all in one spot. What could be sweeter?

Last (but certainly not least) we have .. drum roll please .. trending pages! And not just the old product trends, either. Wait for it ..

Yes, in addition to trending products we now have trending users and brands! Now it”s even easier to find out what the latest love is within the Social Grocery community — as well as who is dominating the leaderboards.

From this main trending page, you can click the “More” button at the bottom of each column to bring you to separate pages for each category.

We hope you enjoy our latest updates! As always, we are open to feedback and would love to know your thoughts.

Happy grabbing!

Walgreens gets social for flu season.

Today, Walgreens announced via Twitter that for each check-in they receive on Foursquare or Facebook, they will donate one flu shot to a person in need.

WE LOVE THAT!

As lovers of everything social (obviously — it”s in our name!) we think this is a great way for Walgreens to put a positive use on social media tools. It”s also for a great cause, as flu season can be hard for many. Two thumbs up!

In light of this, if there is a Walgreens in your area, make sure you stop by and check in. And don”t forget to tell your friends!

"Comedian in aisle five!"

The Social Grocery team loves a good sense of humor — you”ll see evidence of this in our dry and sarcastic posts, pointless YouTube video links and love of kittens wearing funny hats. (No, but really)

If you have been nosing around Social Grocery lately, you”ll find that we”ve got some comedians on our hands. Sometimes I”ll just look around the site for a bit and laugh at the comments people leave on products. Here are some of my personal favorites:

“Hey Ma, just fry me up a slice of good ol” heart attack!”

I think we all have someone waiting for us in the fridge. I myself enjoy a nice juice box.

If you”re cleaning up a big mess, you”ve got to keep yourself protected!

A 30-rack of this never fails. Hey, we”ve all had our college years, right?

Don”t ever underestimate the joy of a good coloring book!

As you can see, Social Grocery is a great place for you to share your opinions on products — whether good or bad. The main thing is we want you to have fun! A little humor never hurt anyone, right?
