What is Social Grocery?
Let’s face it, you can’t take all of your friends to the grocery store to get advice on what to buy. Social Grocery is a free website that allows you to give and get advice on products from other friends using it. “Like", comment on, rate and share products on Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail; Add your favorite products to your personalized pantry!
Do I have to have a Facebook or a Twitter account in order to use it?
No. In order to use Social Grocery, simply create an account with your first name, last name, e-mail and password. When you return to Social Grocery, you will login with the email and the password you entered during registration. If you have a Facebook and/or a Twitter account, you can use those accounts to register and find and invite your friends. Grocery shopping is better with friends!
Does it cost anything?
Social Grocery is completely free. The only time you will encounter charges is if you click the “Shop Online" link next to a store listed under “Buy This Product". You will be taken to a separate site to purchase the item.
I can’t find a product that I love. Can you add it?
We are constantly working to update our product catalog of over 100,000 products. If a specific product is not there, please contact us at email@example.com and let us know and we’ll work on adding it in.
What are Trending products?
Trending products are the products listed in the scrolling ticker bar at the top of the Social Grocery page. These products are the most popular products among Social Grocery users at the moment based on the amount of comments, rates and grabs for each product. Want to see more? Click on any product name in the trending products to go its page. There you can comment, rate and share it!
What is Top Ranked?
The Top Ranked leader board is the real-time list of top Social Grocery users based on points. Here you can see other users that have the most points and where you rank on the list based on your points.
How do I get Top Ranked?
Your spot on the Top Ranked leader board is based on the amount of points you have. You can find your points total under the “My Status" box on the homepage or on your own profile. Earn points by interacting with the site and products through “grabbing", commenting, and rating products as well as adding them to your pantry through the “Add to Pantry" button on each product page. You can receive additional points by “liking" and commenting on friend activity. Become the Grocery Socialite of a product and earn a cool 2500 points!

What is a Grocery Socialite?
A Grocery Socialite is a Social Grocery user that has grabbed a specific product more times than any other user. You can become the Socialite of as many products as you can – there is no limit!
How do I become the Grocery Socialite?
You can become the Grocery Socialite by grabbing a product. If you are the first person to grab that product, you will automatically become the Socialite. If there is already a Socialite of that product, you will have to grab the item more times than the current Socialite. Each product has a Grocery Socialite display box in the top right corner that will tell you how many grabs you will need to oust the current Socialite, i.e., “You need 3 more grabs to claim socialite status!" You can only “grab" a product once a day.
I'm no longer the Grocery Socialite of a product! Why not?
This means that someone else has claimed the Socialite status of that product. While heartbreaking, this just means that you need to be sure to grab this product every day until you can reclaim your role! This may be a challenge, however, if the other user battling you for Socialite is also grabbing this product each day. Let the competition begin!
How do I "grab" a product?
You can easily grab a product by going to that product’s page and clicking on the green button with the checkmark labeled “Grab" – that’s it!
I "grabbed" a product. Now what?
That’s it! Unfortunately, you can only grab a product once a day. You can tell if you have already grabbed a product because the green “Grab" button should now be unclickable and grayed out. By grabbing a product, you are increasing your chance of becoming the Grocery Socialite of that product. Explore Social Grocery and find more of your favorite products to grab!
How often can I "grab" a product?
You can grab a product once a day.
What is Up4Grabs?
Up4Grabs is the ongoing monthly points game for Social Grocery. Up4Grabs will begin on the first day of every month at 12:00 AM PST (3:00 AM EST), at which time the points will also be reset to 0 for each user. Users will have the month to accumulate as many points as they can by performing tasks (grab products, rate, comment, add products to pantry, comment and like other users’ activities, etc.) in order to place on the global Social Grocery Top Ranked leader board.
How do I play?
You can play just by using Social Grocery! This means grabbing products, rating, commenting, and adding products to your pantry. Become the Socialite of products by having the most grabs of any user for that product. Interact with other users by commenting and liking their activities. Each action accumulates points, which determines your rank in the global Top Ranked leader board.
Are there any restrictions?
Only persons residing in the United States who are at least 18 years of age can participate.
How will I know if I've won?
You will receive a notification from Social Grocery that you have won via the email you used at sign up – make sure this email is kept up to date so that you don’t miss out!
What are the points for?
Points are a way of determining your rank in the Social Grocery leader board and eventually your level amongst other users (coming soon). The more points you have, the higher your chance of placing a spot in the Top Ranked leader board.
How do I earn points?
You can earn points by grabbing products, rating, commenting, and adding products to your pantry. Become the Socialite of products by having the most grabs of any user for that product. Interact with other users by commenting and liking their activities. Each action accumulates points, which determines your rank in the Top Ranked leader board.
Can I give points to others?
No, you cannot give points to other users. While we are big fans of sharing, when it comes to points, what’s yours is yours!
Can I trade points in for cash?
No, you cannot trade your points in for cash – although, that would be nice!
I just logged in and my points are all gone. Where did they go? Can I get them back?
We’re guessing you either haven’t played in a while or that it is the beginning of the month (possibly both). On Social Grocery, points reset monthly on the first day of the month at 12:00 AM PST (3:00 AM EST). This means that each user has a fair chance of accumulating as many points as possible all month – a clean slate = fair playing grounds for the Up4Grabs game! Unfortunately, once a new month has begun, you cannot get your old points back.
How do I invite friends?
By linking your Facebook, Twitter and Google accounts to your Social Grocery account, Social Grocery will automatically look at your friends list and find the ones who are already using the application. For all those who are not using Social Grocery, we will give you the option to invite them.
How do I “follow" friends?

Can I “follow" people I don’t know?
Yes, you can follow anyone on Social Grocery by clicking on their name (i.e. Socialites, users on the Leaderboard, users who like products you do), which will bring you to their profile page. From there, click on the “Follow" button at the top of the page. And that’s it, you are now following that user! (Hopefully, they will follow you back!)
What is the Pantry?
With over 100,000 products to choose from, your pantry is a place to store and easily access all of your favorite products. Search for your favorite and most-used products in Social Grocery, then click the “ Add to Pantry" button on each product page. Not sure if it’s in your pantry already? The “Add to Pantry" Button should be replaced by the words “In Pantry". In the future, Social Grocery will use the items in your Pantry to present you with customized savings!
How do I add products?
To add products to your pantry, go to any product page. Under the product image there will be an "Add to Pantry" button. Click the button and it should change to say “In Pantry". The item is now in your pantry!
Where can I view my Pantry?
On your profile page, on the right hand side will be a box labeled "My Pantry". The number next to "My Pantry" is the total count of how many items in your pantry, and the last 3 items you added will be shown. You can also view the same box on the home page when you are logged in. Currently, you are only able to view the last 3 items you’ve added to your pantry, but soon you will be able to view and edit all items!
I don't see any magnets. Why?
They are coming! Our magnets feature is not available yet, but will be implemented in the near future. Don’t worry, we’re as excited as you are!
How do I earn magnets?
Magnets are symbols of achievement on Social Grocery. Basically, you will earn magnets by completing certain tasks within the application. Some of these tasks will be unknown (surprise magnets!) while others will serve as rewards for completing challenges, etc. Stay tuned!
What is an "Aisle Hopper"?
An "Aisle Hopper" is a level on Social Grocery. Your level is determined by the number of tasks you have completed, such as ratings, grabs, etc. The level feature is not yet available on Social Grocery, but will be implemented soon. For now, "Aisle Hopper" will serve as a placeholder until levels are available.
How do I get a new level?

How do I rate a product?
Rating products is a great way to tell your friends (and the rest of the Social Grocery community!) just how much you like to dislike a product! To rate, visit a product page. Right above the comment box will be 5 grey stars. Hover over the stars and you’ll receive prompts from Social Grocery such as “Hate it!", “Don’t Like", “It’s OK", “Like It" or “Love it!" to help you decide what to rate it. Click on the number of stars you’d like to rate that product. If you want to change your rating, simply click on a different star. The stars will turn yellow when it has registered your rating.
How do I comment on a product?
To comment on a product, visit any product page. Next to the product image there will be a blue box labeled “Share a Comment". Write your comment in the box and click the “Comment" button and your comment will be left for the world to see on the product page! Bonus: earn 1000 points for leaving a comment!
Can I respond to other comments and activity?
Of course! Social Grocery is nothing without being…well, social! Click the “like" button on a comment if you like a comment (and receive 100 points!) or click the “Comment" button under a comment to leave your response. You can also Comment and Like ratings from others.
Buy This Product
When I put in my zip code, I just see Amazon and Netgrocer listed. Why?
Unfortunately, it means that none of the retailers we work with are available in your area. We’re working to add more stores, so check back often to see if we’ve added your store. But, just because your store isn’t listed doesn’t mean you can’t still purchase the item, so we provide two options for purchasing the item online.
Why don't I see my store listed?
Social Grocery has a comprehensive list of retailers that we work with, but we don’t work with every store at the present time. If there’s a specific store you’d like to see, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know! We’re working hard to grow our list of participating stores, so please check back often.
How do I purchase an item?
One cool feature about Social Grocery is that we give you the option to purchase every item in our product database (that's over 100,000 products!) To purchase an item, enter your zip code in the space provided in the "Buy This Product" box on the product page. This will show you a list of participating retailers near you. If none are available, we will direct you to our online partners, Amazon.com and Netgrocer.com, to purchase the item. If a store near you is listed, simply click "Shop Online" and you will be directed to the store's online grocery shopping system in which you can simply add the item to your cart and checkout! If none are listed, click the Amazon or Netgrocer logo to go to their online shopping systems.
Why am I taken out of Social Grocery when I choose to buy a product?
Social Grocery wants to make sure you get the products you want when you want them. By partnering with local grocery retailers across the country, we can provide you the closest option for purchasing the item. This cuts down on waiting time and you can know where your product is coming from. If we don’t have any partners in your area, we will direct you to our online partners Amazon.com and Netgrocer.com for online ordering.
